is very happy to announce that the single “This Is Elvis” is now available for download. Written and recorded in the fall of 1980 by Beach Boy Carl Wilson and his talented songwriting collaborator, Myrna Smith of The Sweet Inspirations (Elvis Presley's backup singers), this previously unreleased treasure was originally considered for inclusion in the 1981 documentary film, This Is Elvis, but was ultimately not used in the soundtrack.

Billy penned the liner notes for “This Is Elvis.” The track is available for download from digital music services. All earned proceeds from the download of “This Is Elvis” will solely benefit The Carl Wilson Foundation (CWF). (updated 9-2015)

 

2014

bullet Billy spent a weekend in New York City at the APAP Convention (Association of Performing Arts Presenters) where he was promoting a Las Vegas-based Beach Boys tribute group he is representing called Good Vibrations (formerly Tripsitter). As he puts it, “There was interest in hiring the group from Florida to China.” He also made time to dine with friends at Frank Sinatra’s favorite NYC Italian restaurant, Patsy’s, in midtown Manhattan. bullet Billy did an extensive tour of Florida in early February with other former and current Beach Boys veteran touring and recording band members Bobby Figueroa, Ed Carter, Matt Jardine and Randell Kirsch. The group is called California Surf, Incorporated (CSI) and they have already done shows in both The United States and Canada. (updated 2-14)

bullet Billy appeared with California Saga in celebration of Mike Love receiving the Ella Award from the Society of Singers, Inc., a charitable nonprofit organization that supports vocalists. The ceremony took place on Feb. 20, 2014 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, in Beverly Hills, CA. Billy also joined Beach Boys Mike Love and Bruce Johnston onstage for their March 8, 2014 show in Nevada. 2013

bullet On September 14 & 15, 2013, The Rock and Roll Autograph Show included Billy as one of their special guest attendees at the Westin Hotel at LAX where he spent several days signing autographs and making available his vast inventory of DVDs, CDs and vintage Dino, Desi & Billy photos to fans and collectors from around the world. Several of his buddies from the ‘60s were also there including Gary Lewis (Playboys) and Mark Lindsay (Raiders). Chuck Negron (3 Dog Night), Mark Farner (Grand Funk), Teddy Neeley (Jesus Christ Superstar), and many more participated in the weekend event. (updated 9-13)

bullet When the Brian Wilson & Jeff Beck tour came to Las Vegas on October 18, 2013, Billy’s special guests at the VIP soundcheck included Vegas superstar singer Clint Holmes and wife Kelly Clinton, and Bella Electric Strings owner and violinist Nina DiGregorio. Billy later joined the entire assemblage from both bands onstage for the encore that included “Surfin’ U.S.A.” and “Danny Boy.” (updated 10-13)

bullet October 5 & 6, 2013, found Billy at The Hollywood Autograph Show once again at the Westin LAX. He shared the enormous convention hall room with old friend Billy Mumy and new friend, veteran comedian Marty Allen. Also in attendance was the Beach Boys’ friend, actor David Hasselhoff, who remembered working with the band at Universal Studios. (updated 10-13)

bullet Billy spent Christmas morning with the Hinsche/Wilson families at the home of his nephew Justyn Wilson and wife, Britta, and their children. It was a family gathering that included his mother, Celia Hinsche, nephew Jonah Wilson and friend Rona Stevenson, sister Annie Wilson-Karges and husband Terry (who is the newly appointed Executive Director of the Petersen Automotive Museum in L.A.) The Christmas celebrations continued at the new home of Marilyn Wilson-Rutherford and husband Daniel, where Billy led the exuberant guests in rollicking renditions of “Jingle Bells,” “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” and a gentle version of “Silent Night.” The choir included The Honeys (Marilyn, Ginger, Diane), Carnie and Wendy Wilson (with husbands Rob Bonfiglio and Dan Knutson respectively), Melinda Wilson, cousin Carl B. Wilson with wife Rebecca, Michael Wilson and wife Samantha; Barbara Wilson, songwriter Stevie Kalinich, and an assortment of children and friends. (updated 12-13)

bullet Special Screening: Billy will screen his film 1974 — On the Road with The Beach Boys at the 2010 Pawtucket, RI Arts Film Festival. Two screenings will take place on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center, 175 Main Street in Pawtucket, RI (USA). Billy will conduct a Q&A and perform an acoustic set following each screening. Tickets are $10 and includes a catered reception and autograph session. An after-party and jam session with Billy will be held at The Comfort Inn, 2 George St. in Pawtucket, RI at 10 p.m. immediately following the film's screenings (so bring your acoustic instruments). bullet Billy was a featured artist at Rock Con's “Weekend of 100 Rock Stars” fan-friendly fest that ran from July 30 - August 1, 2010 at the Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel & Conference Center in E. Rutherford, NJ. He was joined by Al Jardine, Mary Wilson, Tommy James, Little Anthony, Andy Kim, Ron Dante, and many of his other contemporaries for what Billy describes as, “a weekend that is comparable to country music's Fan Fair... an opportunity to get ‘up close and personal’ with many of your favorite performers.” The event featured a screening of Billy's latest documentary film 1974 — On the Road with The Beach Boys. bullet A new Brian Wilson documentary is in the works by a group of young, independent UK filmmakers who specialize in biographies about people in the field of music. Billy was contacted and agreed to do a lengthy interview that was conducted on the lovely beach at Santa Monica Bay. He facilitated in getting David Marks and Bruce Johnston to participate, and they both make contributions to this documentary. The film concentrates on the music of Brian Wilson in the '60s and is devoid of any private issues or sensational aspects of Brian's personal life. It is destined for a DVD release. (7-16-10)

bullet Academy Award winning Director Quentin Tarantino has included a song Billy recorded during his years with Dino, Desi & Billy called “She's So Far Out She's In” as part of the soundtrack to his company's production of the cult classic biker movie Hell Ride. The official synopsis reads: “Hell Ride is a raucous throwback to the days of the Sergio Leone spaghetti western, with a heaping helping of testosterone-fueled chopper action thrown into the mix.” The movie is directed by Larry Bishop, the son of noted American comic and Rat Pack member, Joey Bishop, and is now available on DVD. bullet Deana Martin (Dean's daughter) asked Billy to join her onstage to sing a duet during a weekend stint at the Suncoast Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday, July 24, 2010. The two old friends performed a very personal version of Dean's signature mega-hit “Memories Are Made of This.” Desi Arnaz, Jr. also joined them onstage. (updated 7-26-10)

bullet Congratulations go to Justyn and Britta Wilson, on the birth of their son Dean Carl Wilson, born June 18, 2007 and their daughter Neva Venae Wilson, born August 6, 2008. Dean and Neva are the grandchildren of Justyn's parents, Annie Wilson-Karges and the late Carl Wilson (of Beach Boys' fame). Billy is their great uncle. (updated 8/25/08)

bullet IN MEMORIAM: Producer, writer and singer Lee Hazlewood lost his battle with renal cancer on August 4, 2007, at his home near Las Vegas. He was 78. Lee was a hit songwriter (“These Boots Are Made for Walking,” “Jackson,” “Houston”), recording artist, and producer, as well as composer for several film scores. He also produced four albums for Dino, Desi & Billy. After being diagnosed with his fatal disease, Lee chose to work on one final album, Cake or Death, which was released in 2007. (8/6/07)

bullet Billy has assembled a 5 minute promo reel for concert buyers to promote his very own show, “Billy Hinsche of Dino, Desi & Billy.” The show features songs of DD&B, original compositions and a Beach Boys classic he has long been associated with — “Sail on Sailor.” (3/20/07)

bullet On Oct. 5, Billy leaves for his annual trip to the UK along with Jeff Foskett. The duo are being billed as the “Music Legends.” Billy says, “I thought Jeff and I should call this the 'Back to the Basics' tour, since this all started with just the two of us performing for the Beach Boys Britain Fan Club and the German Fan Club back in 2002.” There are 2 shows scheduled at the Brentwood Center Marquee on Saturday, Oct. 14 (2:30 p.m. & 7:30 p.m.). bullet On Saturday, Sept. 2, Billy did his very own show at “The Club” at the Cannery in Vegas, performing a 1 hour set that featured the hits of Dino, Desi & Billy, his original teen group from the '60s. Billy's backup band was the popular local Vegas group, Tripsitter. Billy kicked off an all day '60s show featuring the Kingsmen (“Louie, Louie”), the Outsiders (“Time Won't Let Me”), the Looking Glass (“Brandy”), and his Aussie pals, Sixtiesmania. Immediately after his performance, Billy hopped a plane to Reno, NV, where he joined Al Jardine and the Endless Summer Beach Band for a evening show at the Red Hawk Resort. (9/25/06)

bullet Billy is working on another DVD project, Hotel Tips for Teens, an educational short-subject piece in full color and hosted by Paris and Nicky Hilton when they were 15 and 13 years old, respectively. Their parents, Rick and Kathy Hilton, are old friends of Billy's and agreed to let the girls do this project, which was shot on location at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in 1995. The footage was originally done as an accompaniment to Know the Road, Billy's amusing yet informative travel tips video. Price and release date TBD. (6/5/06)

bullet John Hall, president of Rickenbacker International Corporation, asked Billy to host and perform during a 3-day weekend fundraising event commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the company, benefiting the Museum of Making Music located in Carlsbad, CA. Friday, Aug. 25 was a tour of the RIC guitar factory in Santa Ana, CA; Saturday, Aug. 26 was the VIP reception at the Museum, and the weekend culminated with a stellar lineup of Rickenbacker owners at the House of Blues on the famous Sunset Strip in LA. Along with Billy, there were performances by the Smithereens, Peter Buck (REM), Matthew Sweet, Susanna Hoffs (Bangles), Chris Squire (Yes), and others. The headliner was Jefferson Starship with San Francisco rocker Paul Kantner. Billy's backup band included Dennis Diken on drums (Smithereens and USA Legends), nephew Murphy Karges (Sugar Ray) on bass, and the incomparable Jeff “Skunk” Baxter (Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan) on lead guitar. Skunk has been a good friend to RIC, Billy and Carl Wilson over the years, having produced Carl's second album, Youngblood. (9/25/06)

 

2005

bullet Editing has begun on 1974, the title of Billy's new DVD project, shot entirely on the road during the Beach Boys' summer tour of the same year. This black and white footage is the same from which the “One in a Million” and “The Match” short-subject films were gleaned. (10/13/05)

bullet Billy has assembled a collection of over 30 songs which he has written and recorded over the past 25 years and plans to release them on his new CD, Mixed Messages. The CD (likely to be a double disc set) represents the entire range of Billy's musical influences, including rock, pop, R&B, country, Latino, and gospel. Recorded in many different studios, both professional and otherwise, the recordings reflect different levels of production value that vary from simple to full-blown productions. “I have wanted to do this project for many years and really need to get this done,” says Billy. Look for a December release on RD&B Records. (10/13/05)

bullet Billy has released a DVD set, The Road Well Traveled, which includes the rock 'n' roll travel tips tutorial hosted by Billy, “Know the Road” (1995); a special song and video tribute to Dennis Wilson, “One in a Million” (1974); and a short subject comedy featuring Dennis Wilson, Carl Wilson, Billy, Ricky Fataar, Bobby Figueroa, Ed Carter, and Carli Muñoz, “The Match” (1974). Footage from "The Match" is rare, never-before-seen video, shot during the Beach Boys' 1974 summer tour and recently edited. Total DVD running time is 80 minutes approximately. More. bulletBilly has incorporated the harmonica into his music lessons that already include guitar and piano. Of course, one of the first songs the students learn is “Mountain of Love” on which Billy played harmonica for the Beach Boys' Party album back in 1965. (5/2/04)

bullet The 2004 CineVegas Film Festival screened a short subject, black & white, 3.5 minute film dedicated to the late Dennis Wilson that Billy shot on tour with the Beach Boys in the summer of 1974 as part of a UCLA film project. The film's soundtrack is Billy's composition of “One in a Million.” The film is also titled One in a Million and was debuted publicly at the Dennis Wilson Bash in Santa Monica, CA in December 2003. bullet Billy will once again return to Europe with his partner, Jeff Foskett, for return engagements at the Wycliffe Rooms in Lutterworth, UK Midlands (Saturday, March 15); Park View House Hotel at 14 Hermitage Place, Leith Links, Edinburgh (Tuesday, March 18); and Bergischer Hof in Solingen, Germany (Saturday, March 22). Current plans for the Lutterworth appearance call for a 1 p.m. start time, running until 6 p.m. Entrance fee will be £20; the program format should be similar to last year's Chingford appearance. bullet In a surprise Roast of Martin Sheen (ala the Dean Martin television Roasts) Billy Hinsche, Ricci Martin, and Wayne Tweed provided some musical and comedic entertainment for the packed VIP party held at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Nov. 15. The cast and crew of television's The West Wing were treated to a “straight” version of Dean Martin's signature song, “Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime,” and Billy wrote some “special lyrical material” for Ricci to sing for their second and last song of the night, “Martin Sheen is Made of This” (nee: “Memories Are Made of This”), which satirized Sheen's illustrious career. bullet I Got Around (Volume 1) is scheduled to be published by Parlor Grand Publishing. The book, the first in a series, was written by Billy and will be a collection of true, nonfiction, short stories which are autobiographical in nature. The stories will reflect a wide range of experiences both personal and professional. Billy has currently shifted his focus to the graphic side of the project and has been compiling photos. A cover photo has already been chosen.

bullet Endless Summer Quarterly featured an excerpt from the book in its summer 2002 issue. The chapter is titled “The Great White Hunters” and is about a hunting trip that Dennis Wilson took Billy on when he was just 15. bullet Billy was a featured performer at the The Carl Wilson Foundation Benefit Concert that was held Sunday, October 6, 2002 at Royce Hall on the campus of his alma mater, UCLA. Billy and Matthew Sweet joined with Brian Wilson and his band to sing “Sail On Sailor.” The concert also featured Eric Clapton, Sugar Ray, The Wilsons, and In Bloom. Billy joined with Ricci Martin and Jeffrey Foskett as tour guides for the first CWF Historical Bus Tour of Beach Boys-related sites (including Brian Wilson's lemonade stand) earlier the same day. Billy and Jeff also led the sing-a-long at the CWF's post-Walk Beach Party the day before. (updated 11/17/02)

bullet Billy has released his very first solo CD entitled Bay of Plenty, recorded in New Zealand in March, 2002. It is a live, “unplugged” recording of songs he has written over many years, including tunes that have been recorded by Dino, Desi & Billy; Nelson Riddle; Dean Martin; Ricci, Desi & Billy; and Carl Wilson. bulletPatria” is a new song which Billy wrote for a project his partner Desi Arnaz, Jr. had been working on last year. The project (a musical) is about a Cuban family who relocated to the United States in the 1950s.
